Superman died tonight.
He choked himself on kryptonite.
The police were sent
they said "We've found Clark Kent
and we can only be sure this was no
accident."
And later that night
in the police chief's bed
they found a gun in his hand
a hole in his head
and a note on the wall that read
"Superman is dead."
When Moses parted the sea
and he set his people free
did the gods of Egypt say
"Well, I'll be.
I thought the one true god was me."
There's a voicemail for Lois Lane.
She's out on a date with Bruce Wayne.
Now the voice is soft
and the voice is grave
and it says "There's a man
Superman couldn't save
so I'll save myself instead.
Superman is dead."
The day that Jesus died
slapped on a cross and crucified
did God feel a sense of fatherly pride
or do you think he cried
Superman died tonight
but don't be scared
we'll be alright
'cause with superman gone
it won't be long
till there's somebody new to be
dependent on
and not a tear we'll shed
that Superman is dead.
Superman is dead.
Superman is dead.
Superman is dead.
